34th Annual Firefighters Cross Country Run
Incorporating the 36th UK FSS & AA Cross Country Championships
Sunday 2 October 2011
Venue: Stowe Landscape Gardens (National Trust), Buckingham, MK18 5EH.
Course: Undulating parkland including limited gravel paths. Multi-lap course of 5 miles (8km). Women will have the opportunity to run only 2.5 miles (4km) but will not be included in the championship race.
Race start time: 14.00hrs men and women. Please arrive by 13.00hrs.
Start: Adjacent to “Thanet Walk”, near Queens Temple, Hawkwell Field.
Car parking: On grassland off the main drive 100m beyond security gate. Park on the left side at the “Fire” notice.
Reception, changing and showers: In sports pavilion, adjacent to the rugby pitches on the main school frontage. Please do not walk across the rugby field. Race numbers issued on day.
Presentations and refreshments: School dining room from 15.30hrs, a hot meal will be provided.
First aid: This will be provided by a qualified fire and rescue service officer.
Risk assessment: Carried out by organiser.
Race permit and rules: Permit applied for under UKA rules.
Race awards: First three individuals men and women, age category and team awards determined on entries received by the closing date of Friday 1 September 2011. (BFRS awards, same criteria with three score on Watch or Station entry). Team scoring – 4 men, 3 women on finishing position with separate race scoring.
Entry: £11 per person, which includes a £1 donation to The Fire Fighters Charity (plus £3.00 for any supporters requiring a hot meal) using the details on the entry form. Name changes permitted on the day. Silver Jubilee medal issued to all participating runners entering by the closing date.
Future events: Please encourage your friends and colleagues to enter to ensure that this historic event continues for the future. There will also be inter-service representative matches in the future. Selection for these events will be on the basis of the day’s results:
- Saturday 19 November 2011 – Fire v Police v Prison Service, to be held at Newbold Revel, Northamptonshire.
- Wednesday 18 January 2012 (provisional) – RAF v Police v Fire v Civil Service, to be held at RAF Halton, near Wendover.
Thanks: The use of the venue for cross country running is a special privilege to the fire and rescue service. Sincere thanks are expressed to the National Trust and Stowe School for the use of facilities and to Chris Whitehead, tenant farmer for his support and livestock management flexibility. Thanks also go to the staff at Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service HQ for their support in the administration of this event and to the officials of the day from Buckinghamshire AA.
Charity beneficiaries: The Fire Fighters Charity will be the main beneficiary from residual income along with a donation to the National Trust and Stowe School Sports Fund. Runners are encouraged to participate and raise personal sponsorship for The Fire Fighters Charity (paid through their local charity representative) subject to payment of the entry fee.
