Fire Control Staff

Equal opportunities
Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service is an equal opportunity employer and applications from people of any colour, race, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital status or disability are welcomed.

Firefighters are clearly essential to the service we provide, but without the staff in the control room they would not know when and where they were needed. The primary function of control operators is to receive emergency calls from the public and mobilise appliances and firefighters to deal with incidents throughout Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.

The staff are based in the Command and Control Centre in Aylesbury, which is equipped with a fully computerised system for receiving and recording emergency calls. They work a rotating shift pattern averaging 42 hours a week across days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.

When we recruit to the control room we look for people who have a confident telephone manner, good keyboard skills and the ability to think and communicate quickly and clearly. We also require people who have had experience of working in a team environment and who are able to respond positively to pressure by working effectively in stressful situations.

The Command and Control Centre is an exacting working environment but it offers excellent potential for a satisfying and challenging career.
