Man injured as paraglider crash-lands

24 April 2008

A man was injured when his motorised paraglider crash-landed in a field behind Vincent Road, Aylesbury, last night.

Firefighters were called to the incident at 7pm. A crew from Aylesbury attended and helped paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service secure him to a longboard before he was taken to hospital in a Thames Valley Police helicopter. Firefighters had to cross the River Thame using ladders to reach him.

Crew Manager Dave Whitelock said: "The man came down in a field and managed to unharness himself and get about 20 metres away from the paraglider before he was unable to move any further.

"The crew worked very well with the other emergency services to deal with the situation."

Emergency services were alerted to the incident by a local resident who saw the paraglider drop to the ground.

Firefighters were at the scene for about 90 minutes.
