The aftermath of this afternoon's fire in Bledlow Ridge.
24 June 2008
More than 30 firefighters worked to save a house in Bledlow Ridge from being destroyed this afternoon.
Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to the fire in the two-storey detached home in Chinnor Road at 1.18pm.
Station Manager John Bull from High Wycombe Fire Station said: "The fire was well developed in the roof and spreading when the first crews arrived.
"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus initially entered the house, but had to withdraw before it became unsafe. We had to fight the fire from the outside and were able to use our turntable ladder to good effect."
Firefighters used four jets, one turntable ladder monitor and one hose reel.
Most of the damage was to the roof and first floor. Firefighters were later able to go back inside the house to start salvaging property.
Crews from High Wycombe, Princes Risborough, Beaconsfield, Aylesbury, Great Missenden and Amersham attended, along with support vehicles from Aylesbury and a number of officers. Relief crews started arriving late this afternoon and two will remain at the incident until at least 9am on Wednesday.
