Firefighters and community safety staff have been out and about in Bletchley’s Whaddon ward this afternoon providing safety advice following yesterday’s fire in Stour Close.
Crews called to a fire in a semi-detached bungalow last night found the body of a woman in the sitting room. An investigation is taking place to find out exactly what happened.
Station Manager Dave Norris from Bletchley Fire Station said today: “It’s a difficult time for her family and friends and for the community as a whole, and our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by the tragedy.
“We hope that our presence here will go some way towards reassuring people and helping them come to terms with what has happened.
“We also want to make sure that local people have easy access to any fire safety advice they may be seeking.”
Firefighters are offering to carry out free fire safety checks in people’s homes, fitting free smoke alarms where necessary. They will be delivering leaflets in the area tomorrow to try reach people they haven’t been able to see today.
If you would like to book one of these checks, which normally take about 30 minutes, ring 01296 744477 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
