Scene of this afternoon's collision in Holmer Green

14 October 2010

A car was left with one of its front wheels hanging over a gas main trench after a road traffic collision in Holmer Green this afternoon.

Firefighters from Great Missenden Fire Station were called to the incident in Watchet Lane at 1.23pm, along with Station Manager John Bull from High Wycombe Fire Station.

John said: "Two cars were involved in a collision within a section of roadworks. One of the cars, a Skoda Octavia, had its nearside front wheel hanging in the trench over the gas main. Fortunately there was no risk of a fire or an explosion.

"A contractor's digger was used to anchor the other car, a Vauxhall Vectra, to prevent it from moving, and the fire appliance's front-mounted winch was attached to the rear of the Skoda, which was then drawn back out of the hole on to the roadway."

Watch Manager Ali Angus and the Great Missenden crew were at the scene for just over half an hour.
