Appeal for witnesses - smoke device posted through letterbox

Issued jointly with Thames Valley Police

5 February 2010

Police are appealing for witnesses after an incident in Milton Keynes where a smoke device was posted through a letterbox.

At about 11pm on Friday 29 January, the resident arrived home to her property in Silicon Court, Shenley Lodge. On opening the front door, she saw a small item burning and the house was full of smoke.

It appears a smoke device had been lit and posted through the front door. Firefighters from Great Holm Fire Station attended and assisted with ventilation fans to clear the smoke from the house.

PC Chris Bird of Thames Valley Police said: “Thankfully there was no lasting damage, but this was mainly due to the floor surface not catching fire.

“Potentially this incident could have been very serious, with the possibility of the house catching fire and endangering the life of the residents.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed anyone in the area around the time of the offence acting suspiciously to contact me or Crimestoppers.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact PC Bird through the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you do not want to talk to the police, call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
