Have you heard of Hazard Alley in Milton Keynes? Why not take the opportunity to see for yourself what it’s all about by coming along to the annual open day on Sunday 23 August. It takes place at the Safety Centre, 18 Carters Lane, Kiln Farm, from 10am to 4pm.
Entry is free, and as well as being able to look around the Safety Centre’s carefully-designed scenarios which raise safety awareness, visitors will be able to see displays and demonstrations by Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service, Thames Valley Police and Milton Keynes Council.
There will also be a chance to take part in competitions, games and activities, and to meet Blaze Bear!
Director Jan Alder said: “Hazard Alley was set up to deliver important messages about safety to children by providing realistic experiences of danger and accidents in an entirely safe environment.
“In 12 film-set scenes from everyday life, children are encouraged to identify hazards and develop safe strategies to deal with simulated and potential emergencies – in the home, in the street, at the petrol station or on the farm.
“The centre was designed for primary school-aged children, but many adult visitors have commented that they too have learned useful lessons!"
Displays and attractions planned by Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service include:
- The Firefighter Experience –a mobile community safety activity centre for children
- Fire investigation dog handler Kerry Burns with fire investigation dogs Barney and Ember
- An Urban Search and Rescue crew with their big container lorry, called a prime mover, packed with equipment
- A road safety demonstration in which firefighters from Great Holm Fire Station will show how they release people who are trapped in vehicles following a crash
- The Community Safety Exhibition Unit – a vehicle displaying fire safety and road safety leaflets and information
