Investigation launched after fire destroys house

6 December 2009

An investigation has been launched following a fire which destroyed a house in Farnham Royal this morning.

Officers from Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service and Thames Valley Police are working together to establish the cause.

Firefighters were called to the detached chalet bungalow in Crown Lane at 1.24am. There was no-one in the property.

Four crews from Beaconsfield and Slough attended, along with a water tanker from Princes Risborough and the Command and Control Unit from Aylesbury. At its peak there were more than 30 firefighters and officers at the scene.

Group Manager Greg Smith said: "The fire was already very well-developed when we were called, and we brought in a water tanker to supplement the water supply.

"Our firefighters worked very well with their colleagues from Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service to prevent it from spreading to neighbouring properties.

"An investigation is now underway to find out how it started."

Firefighters used two monitors, two jets and a hose reel. A relief crew remained at the scene on Sunday morning.
