Safety plea after man suffers burns

25 September 2009

Firefighters are urging people to follow standard fire safety advice after a man suffered burns in an incident last night.

Crews from Great Holm and Bletchley were called to a house in Redwood Gate, Shenley Lodge, Milton Keynes, shortly before midnight.

A man burnt his hands while carrying a toaster, which had caught fire, outside.

Watch Manager Chris Montague from Great Holm Fire Station said: "While we understand this might be an instinctive reaction, we don't want anyone getting hurt in these circumstances.

"Our advice is always to get out, stay out and call 999. We'll be along within minutes with the right equipment and protective clothing to deal with the incident.

"Paramedics were able to treat him at the scene, so we are obviously glad that his injuries were not more serious."

Firefighters used a ventilation fan to clear smoke-logging in the house, and fitted two additional smoke alarms.
