Firefighters rescue woman from frozen lake

8 January 2009

Firefighters rescued a woman and her dog from a frozen lake today.

Crews from Newport Pagnell, Bletchley and Great Holm were called to the Blue Lagoon in Bletchley at 12.02pm by a passer-by.

Station Manager Nick Honor, who was also at the incident, said: “The dog had fallen through the ice into the water and the woman had fallen in trying to rescue it.”

Firefighters were able to pull her to safety using rescue lines and inflated hoses.

Nick added: “Fortunately the crews were able to rescue the woman from the lake, and the dog followed its owner to safety.

“We would urge people to keep their animals away from frozen water or on a lead in this cold weather”.

The woman was taken to hospital by South Central Ambulance Service and the dog cared for by Thames Valley Police.
