Many thanks to everyone who supported the charity car washes at Beaconsfield, Bletchley and Princes Risborough Fire Stations on Saturday. They were held to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity as part of its annual National Car Wash Day.
Beaconsfield - boosted by an hour-long visit by TV celebrity and Buckinghamshire resident Fern Britton, who has been publicising this year's event for the charity - raised £750. Bletchley's car wash raised £485, and Princes Risborough's £247.50.
Terry Ridgley, Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service's representative on the charity, said: "Many thanks to all the generous people who came along, and to Fern for helping make it such a success."
If you missed them, two more car washes will be taking place over the next few weeks.
They are at Great Missenden Fire Station on Saturday 28 March, and Marlow Fire Station on Saturday 4 April. Both will run from 10am to 4pm.
Marlow's will be a combined effort by firefighters from High Wycombe and Marlow Fire Stations. The money raised will b shared between The Fire Fighters Charity and the family of 16-year-old Elisha Herbert from Marlow. Elisha, who has been diagnosed with a benign brain tumour, has had two operations and is now undergoing radiotherapy.
What Fern Britton said about the event:
“I am very proud to be supporting The Fire Fighters Charity, while at the same time being able to roll up my sleeves and lend a hand to my local firefighters.
"The charity does a sterling job and has been helping these courageous individuals and their families for over 60 years. Without any government funding, the charity relies entirely on beneficiary and public donations.
“I applaud the bravery of the firefighters who routinely put themselves in harm's way, making split-second decisions to save lives. They are the ones entering a burning building when everyone else is running out.”
