Five charity car wash events confirmed

27 February 2009

National Car Wash Day in aid of The Fire Fighters Charity is on Saturday 7 March - and five of our stations have confirmed they will be taking part either on the day or shortly afterwards. They are:

  • Beaconsfield Fire Station, Saturday 7 March, 10am to 2pm. TV presenter Fern Britton – the “face” of this year’s national publicity - will be coming along to help for part of the day.

  • Bletchley Fire Station, Saturday 7 March, 10am to 1pm

  • Princes Risborough Fire Station, Saturday 7 March, 10am to 2pm

  • Great Missenden Fire Station, Saturday 28 March, 10am to 4pm

  • Marlow Fire Station, Saturday 4 April, 10am to 4pm. This will be a combined effort by firefighters from High Wycombe and Marlow Fire Stations. They will be sharing the money raised between The Fire Fighters Charity and the family of 16-year-old Elisha Herbert from Marlow. Elisha, who has been diagnosed with a benign brain tumour, has had two operations and is now undergoing radiotherapy.

Fern Britton said: “I am very proud to be supporting The Fire Fighters Charity, while at the same time being able to roll up my sleeves and lend a hand to my local firefighters. The charity does a sterling job and has been helping these courageous individuals and their families for over 60 years. Without any government funding, the charity relies entirely on beneficiary and public donations.”

She added: “I applaud the bravery of the firefighters who routinely put themselves in harm's way, making split-second decisions to save lives. They are the ones entering a burning building when everyone else is running out.”

At all the events, firefighters will be providing important fire safety messages to people who have their vehicles washed.
