30 August 2009
Fun and safety will be top of the bill at Bletchley Fire Station's open day, which takes place from 12 noon to 4pm this coming Saturday, 5 September.
The open day is raising money for The Fire Fighters Charity, with 10 per cent of the proceeds going to the MK Dons Sport and Education Trust. Attractions and displays include:
- Demonstrations by firefighters showing how they rescue people from buildings and release people who are trapped in vehicles.
- A display by Kerry Burns, Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service's fire investigation dog handler, and one of the fire investigation dogs.
- A chance to have a close look at an Urban Search and Rescue vehicle and to meet some of the people who crew it.
There will also be a bouncy castle, a barbecue, refreshments and a raffle.
The three vehicles based at Bletchley Fire Station will be on display - the Rescue Pump operated by the station's wholetime firefighters, the Water Tanker/Tender operated by its Retained Duty System crew and the Fire and Emergency Support Service vehicle run by British Red Cross Volunteers.
Station Manager Nick Honor said: "We hope this will be an enjoyable day for all the family, and one in which everyone will pick up some important safety messages."
Parking is available in Milton Keynes College's Bletchley Campus car park opposite the fire station in Sherwood Drive.
