Goodbye AYL1, hello FJC 21P1

AYL1, now known as FJC 21P1, is pictured above.

6 January 2009

New call signs – the letters and numbers identifying our emergency service vehicles - came into effect at midnight.

The change is part of the preparation for the opening of a national network of regional control centres for the fire and rescue service.

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service is in the South East region, whose control room will be based at Fareham, Hampshire.

All our call signs have the prefix FJC: F identifying the service, Fire; J for the region, South East; and C for the sub-region, Buckinghamshire.

Additional letters and numbers identify the five district or unitary council areas where our 20 fire stations are located, the stations themselves and the types of vehicle (rescue pump, turntable ladder etc) available.

So the first rescue pump at Aylesbury Fire Station – previously known as AYL1 – is now known as FJC 21P1.

You will find a full list of old and new calls signs, along with pictures of all our emergency vehicles, here.
