Two of our old fire engines will shortly be off to their new homes following a sale by sealed-bid tender. Three other vehicles were also on sale with a total of 36 bids received. The winning bids totalled £14,201.88

The two fire engines, which were until recently in active service, were offered for sale by Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service as they have reached the end of their working lives as front-line appliances.

The first - a Volvo FL7 fire appliance - started its life as a rescue pump at High Wycombe Fire Station in 1993. It was transferred to Beaconsfield Fire Station in 2001, where it remained until earlier this year.

It has a 6.7-litre turbo diesel engine, a Volvo automatic gearbox, a Rosenbauer fire pump and 205,000 kilometres (128,000 miles) on the clock. Its sister vehicle was sold for £5,000 by sealed-bid tender last year.

The second – a Volvo FL618 Snozzle fire appliance – was based at Aylesbury Fire Station from 1992 to 2003, before moving to Waddesdon Fire Station. It was transferred to Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service’s training school at Haddenham Fire Station in 2006 for use as a driver training vehicle.

It has a 5.5-litre turbo diesel engine, a six-speed manual gearbox, a Godiva fire pump, a two-boom hydraulic water monitor and 116,000 kilometres (72,500 miles) on the clock.

The other vehicles for sale were a 5.5-litre Volvo FL618 box body, a four-litre Mercedes 711D van and a trailer.
