A bus caught fire yesterday evening on the A509 dual carriageway in Chicheley.

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service received the call at 7.27pm. Firefighters from Newport Pagnell and Broughton attended and found the double decker bus already well alight. They used compressed air foam, hose reels and breathing apparatus to put out the fire.

One side of the dual carriageway was closed by Thames Valley Police.

The bus was destroyed by the fire, which is believed to have started in the engine compartment.

The driver and one passenger on board managed to get off the bus safely.
