Firefighters rescue cow and deer

Firefighters rescued a cow from the River Thames and a deer with its head stuck in railings on Sunday afternoon.

The cow entered the river from a stream between Pens Place and Lower Pound Lane, Marlow. Crews from Marlow and High Wycombe were called at 2.34pm, along with colleagues from Berkshire.

Watch Manager Richard Boast from Marlow Fire Station said: “Although we were obviously all wearing life jackets, we didn’t have to enter the water.

“Two private boats on the river formed a barricade to prevent the animal from moving further away from the bank. The cow turned around and eventually we encouraged it to walk back out of the river, where it was reunited with its herd.”

About 90 minutes later, firefighters from High Wycombe were called to The Greenway, in Priory Road, High Wycombe, where a deer had got its head stuck in railings. Firefighters eased it out and it ran off uninjured.
