Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service worked with the RSPCA to rescue a dog which fell 20 feet down a silo shaft this afternoon.
It happened in Grange Farm Road, Radnage, shortly after 1pm. Urban Search and Rescue technicians from Beaconsfield Fire Station used harnesses and a winch in an operation that took around two hours.
Station Manager Dean Elliott, who also attended the incident, said: "We were concerned about the possible consequences of well-meaning but untrained members of the public, without proper safety equipment, trying to go down the shaft.
"We assessed the situation after receiving the 999 call, which involved an Urban Search and Rescue technician and an RSPCA inspector going down on harnesses.
"We were then able to set up a winch on a tripod and lift the dog in a cradle, like an air-sea rescue.
"It was good dual working by the organisations and every precaution was taken to ensure the safety of the rescuers and the welfare of the dog."
The dog has been taken to a vet by the RSPCA for treatment.
