The line-up of safety displays and attractions at Broughton Fire Station's open day, which takes place from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday 3 August, has now been announced.

Firefighters will use a specially-built “room” to show how quickly a house fire can spread, and will also give a demonstration showing how a hot pan fire can develop if it is not dealt with correctly.

They will also demonstrate rescue techniques used during a fire, and carry out a road traffic collision extrication, in which they will show how they release someone who is trapped in a vehicle after a crash.

Broughton’s fleet of emergency rescue vehicles will be on display, along with appliances from some of Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service’s other 19 stations.

There will also be refreshments, cakes, a raffle, children’s attractions and even an opportunity to soak some of the firefighters!

Station Manager Geoff Bottle said: "We hope that we will be able to pass on a variety of important safety messages to the community, as well as giving everyone an enjoyable afternoon out.

“We would like to ask everyone who comes to the open day to park considerately as we do not want our event to inconvenience residents in Middleton who live near the fire station.”

The event is also being held to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides assistance to serving and retired fire and rescue service staff, their families and dependants.
