This year’s annual fund-raising event in memory of popular Aylesbury firefighter Alistair “Ali” Haddow raised £3,100 for charity.

The Ali Haddow Memorial Fund Golf Day went ahead last month at Silverstone Golf Club near Stowe in spite of torrential rain.

Ali died last year just a few years after retiring following 30 years’ service with Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service.

Fund chairman Dean Elliott, Station Manager at Amersham and Gerrards Cross Fire Stations, said: “Ali used his passion for sport as a means to help raise thousands of pounds for many local charitable causes.

“Fittingly, friends from the three main circles Ali moved in – Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service, Bernewode Golf Society and his home village of Grendon Underwood – now come together every year to carry on the tradition.”

Overall winner of the 18-hole Stableford competition for the second year running was Jan Maciejewski of Bernewode Golf Society, who was presented with the Ali Haddow Memorial Fund Golf Day Trophy by Ali’s widow Margaret.

But the biggest winner was The Fire Fighter’s Charity, to which the day's proceeds are being donated.

Dean said: “I would like to thank everyone who was involved in the event, from the 90 players to the determined helpers who braved the elements to make the day a success.

“I would also like to thank all the organisatons and individuals who so generously supported the event or donated raffle prizes and helped boost the amount of money raised for charity.”
