Two firefighters from Buckingham Fire Station have been presented with medals recognising 20 years of service and good conduct.

Firefighter Jerry Akuffo and Crew Manager Stuart Irwin were presented with their medals and certificates by Mrs Jenny Hopkirk, Vice Lord-Lieutenant for Buckinghamshire, at a ceremony at the Civic Centre in Aylesbury on Friday.

It was also attended by Mrs Amanda Nicholson, High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, Cllr David Rowlands, Chairman of Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Fire & Rescue Authority, and Damian Smith, Chief Fire Officer, Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service.

Jerry joined Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service from London Fire Brigade, serving first at Aylesbury before transferring to Buckingham.

Stuart started his career in Strathclyde and transferred to Leighton Buzzard, Toddington and then Bletchley before taking up his current position.

The Fire Brigade Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, introduced by the Queen in 1954, honours full-time and part-time members of the fire and rescue service “who have rendered long and meritorious service”.
