14 pupils to join us for a day!

20 November 2007

Fourteen year 9 pupils from Mandeville Upper School in Aylesbury will be joining Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service for the day on Friday (23 November).

It’s all part of the first ever 11 Million Takeover Day – a national celebration of the importance of young people in our society - in which businesses and organisations across the country will demonstrate their commitment to children and young people for the day.

The seven boys and seven girls have been selected by their peers in recognition of their positive attitude and hard work at school.

The day will start at Aylesbury Fire Station with a health and safety briefing. The pupils will then be issued with fire kit for the day before starting their exercises in the drill yard.

Then it’s over to Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service’s Training School in Haddenham for lunch and more exercises.

Angie Daly, Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service’s safety education manager, said: “The young people will be involved in a number of activities, including radio communications and breathing apparatus exercises. The object of the day is to help them understand what a firefighter’s job is all about.”
