Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Fire Authority
Fire Authority Meeting

Our service covers the area served by Buckinghamshire County Council and Milton Keynes Council. A combined fire authority of elected Members from these authorities oversees the service – Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Fire Authority. Their numbers are proportional to the populations they represent, with 12 members from Buckinghamshire County Council and five from Milton Keynes Council.

Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Fire Authority is a publicly accountable body which manages the fire and rescue service on behalf of the communities it serves. They make decisions on things like policy, finance and resources.

The authority's role is to:

  • set the annual budget
  • agree the staff, vehicle and other resources needed to deliver an efficient service
  • approve the service's plans, policies and strategies
  • approve the composition of the committees and sub-committees of the authority.

The authority normally meets four times a year with an annual meeting held in June. At this annual meeting the Chairman and Vice-Chairman are appointed, and committee membership is decided.

The current committees are:
Executive Committee
Standards Committee
Audit Committee
Human Resources Sub-Committee

Previous committees include Overview & Performance Committee and Safety Panel.

All meetings are open to the media and public.  However, some confidential matters have to be discussed in private.
