Previously based at Aylesbury Fire Station, Waddesdon’s six-wheel Volvo is effectively two vehicles in one – a regular fire engine called a Water Tender that can be crewed by up to seven firefighters, and a specialist appliance called a Water Tanker that can carry 9,000 litres of water – five times the capacity of a normal fire engine.
The distinctive vehicle – red at the front and white at the back – weighs 26 tonnes with a full load of water. Its call sign is Waddesdon Three Five and its registration number is Y76MWL. It has a “twin” at Bletchley Fire Station – call sign Bletchley Three Five, registration number Y83MWL.
Waddesdon’s previous appliance – a Water Tender with a water-carrying capacity of 1,800 litres – recently came to the end of its operational life as a front-line appliance and has been moved to our training school in Haddenham as a driver training vehicle.
As well as attending emergency incidents in Waddesdon and the surrounding villages, our new appliance is called in to support crews at incidents throughout Aylesbury Vale.
