What to do in a fire

You may think that you know exactly what to do, but if it came down to it, would you really know what to do if a fire broke out in your home?

Follow our simple guide below to make sure you know exactly how to deal with a dangerous fire-related situation.

In an emergency always remember...
  • Get out!
  • Stay out!
  • Call the fire and rescue service out!

Here's what to do:

  • Dial 999 from any telephone, including mobiles.
  • The operator will ask "Which service do you require?"
  • Say "Fire service"

You will then be routed to nearest Fire Control Centre.
"Fire Service - Can I help you?"

  • Give details of the emergency 
  • Give your full address 
  • Give your telephone number 
  • Give your name 
  • Give any other details you think may be important

Is there a local landmark nearby, such as a Post Office?
